Google Getting Rid of Average Position Metric

This is one of those columns that I still use every day. However, I’m using it less and less now because of the Search Impression Share metrics.

So, I guess that’s why they’re getting rid of it. 

At least they are giving us a heads up about it and not just making the change without letting anyone know.

It will be disappearing in September of this year (2019).

I know about (but never actually saw) that they were doing this back in 2016, but that was the last that I heard about it.

PPC Campaigns Aren't Built in Hours...

We tell people this all the time after they told us that they tried Google Ads and it just didn’t work. 

They added a few keywords, an ad, pointed it to their home page and expected it all to work.

That’s just not the reality of a great PPC campaign and this article talks a bit more about why that is the case.

Google Ads Bringing Click Share to Search Campaigns

This is the estimated share of all achievable clicks that a company has received.

The lower the click share, the more opportunity there is to capture additional clicks.

This was an option that was previously available, but only for shopping campaigns.

This will be roled out to all campaigns in the coming weeks.

The Most Critical Google Ads (Adwords) Trends of 2019

This one is a bit scary if you’re managing / optimizing your own campaigns.

Great read about some preditions for Google ads in 2019. 

A couple of interesting points are the fact that the CPC is higher than ever (which most of us know), but talking about the quality and keywords is interesting.

Also, the fact that keywords are changing due to “Voice Search” becoming more popular.

Google Tells Some Advertisers it Will Handle Their Campaign Management.

This one is a bit scary if you’re managing / optimizing your own campaigns.

I’ve worked with some of Google’s so called “campaign managers” before and typically they just regurgitate the same things over and over again… you should add these 100 (really bad) keywords. You should let Google optimize your ad rotation. Etc.

When you do get a good manager, they aren’t there for very long as they usually get promoted. So this will be an interesting one to watch.
